Amendments To The Convention For The Regulation Of The Meshes Of Fishing Nets And The Size Limits Of Fish

The following Amendments were adopted at the Eleventh Meeting of the Permanent Commission held in London from 8 to 10 May 1963:

(1) Article 5 of the Convention was amended by substituting for the present text the following words:

"No vessel shall carry on board or use any trawl, seine or other net towed or hauled at or near the bottom of the sea which has in any part of the net meshes of dimensions less than those specified in Annex I to this Convention."

(2) Article 6 of the Convention was amended by deleting "paragraph 1 of" in the fifteenth line.

(3) Sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (2) of Article 7 of the Convention was amended by substituting in the fourth line "1965" for "1963" and "100" for "110", and by deleting the words in parentheses.

(4) Annex I to the Convention was amended by substituting for the present text the following words:

(1) The minimum size of mesh for nets referred to in Article 5 of this Convention shall be such that when the mesh is stretched diagonally lengthwise of the net a flat gauge 2 mm. thick of the appropriate width shall pass through it easily when the net is wet.

(2) The appropriate width of gauge in relation to any net shall be

(a) until 31st May, 1964 that shown in Table I, [2] and

(b) as from 1st June, 1964 that shown in Table II.

(5) Annex II to the Convention was amended by substituting "110" for "120" in the penultimate line.
