The Embassy of the United States of America presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and refers to the Agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Republic of Latvia Concerning Fisheries Off the Coasts of the United States, with Annex, signed at Washington, April 8, 1993, as extended (the Agreement).
The Embassy proposes, on behalf of the Government of the United States of America, that the Agreement, which is currently scheduled to expire on December 31, 1997, be extended for an additional two year period, until December 31, 1999. If this proposal is acceptable to the Government of the Republic of Latvia, the Embassy proposes that this note and the Government of the Republic of Latvia’s favorable note in reply shall constitute an agreement between the two Governments, which shall enter into force on a date to be determined in a subsequent exchange of diplomatic notes following the completion of all necessary internal procedures of both parties.
The Embassy of the United States of America in Latvia avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the assurance of its highest consideration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States of America and has the honour to refer to its Note No.03, dated February 13, 1997 concerning the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Latvia and the Government of the United States of America Concerning Fisheries Off the Coasts of the United States, signed in Washington on April 8, 1993.
The Republic of Latvia agrees on proposed extension of the aforementioned Agreement until December 31, 1999 and informs that the legal requirements necessary for the entry into force of extension of the said Agreement have been fulfilled.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of the United States of America the assurances of its highest consideration.
